Website Hosting

Choosing website hosting is a bit like buying a new computer. You can:

  • build your own home computer
  • custom build a DELL
  • get a state of the art model that's got all the bells and whistles

...it all depends on what you need it for. When I launched my first site on the internet I was traumatised by choice about the hosting:

  • which hosting company could I trust?
  • what were the risks of my site going down?
  • what did the hosting jargon mean?

...so I've created these pages as an introduction to website hosting that will hopefully address the sort of questions that I had when i started:

1   If you're entirely new to web hosting, I've explained some of the jargon that you'll need to become acquainted with at  Web Hosting 101. In particular, you need to know how many page views you can expect from your hosting plan

2   In case you want to get your web sites hosted for FREE or next to nothing, here are my thoughts on FREE Website Hosting. There are also small sections on ALMOST FREE and CHEAP hosting.

3   If you're pretty sure you know what you're after, I've compiled a table of what I consider to be the Top 5 Web Hosting Companies, listing their hidden costs and extras.

Personally, I think it's the most info-packed web hosting comparison table I've seen, as it provides a fairly realistic breakdown of what you can expect to receive for your money.

4   With any luck, your website will be so successful that it will be swamped with hits, so rather than risk being taken offline for exceeding your web hosting's allocated bandwith, you'll probably be considering a Dedicated Server

5   I ummed and ahhed quite a bit before creating this Adult Website Hosting  page but in the end, decided that the Adult Industry is a fact of Life and that my site visitors were mature enough to acknowledge its existence, too

6   There are some pretty good reasons why you might consider becoming a Web Hosting Reseller but the overall question is: Can you drive traffic to your new site?

7   Most website hosting companies provide pretty good web site stats and I strongly recommend that you view them regularly, they're a goldmine of INFO about how people are finding your site and how you should be tweaking each page's text
