An Intro to Xango

Xango's founder, Joe Morton, recounts how he first discovered the mangosteen fruit in Thailand

Xango juice is a fruit concoction made from:

  • apple juice
  • pear juice
  • grape juice & puree
  • blueberries
  • strawberries
  • raspberries
  • cranberries &

...a small amount of the flesh, seeds & skin of a little-known fruit from South East Asia, the mangosteen.

So is Xango mangosteen juice just a fancy fruit flip? No, it's much, much more, ...as you'll find out when you watch Xango founder Joe Morton's fascinating story about how he first encountered mangosteen:

The Mangosteen Fruit

Why you probably haven't heard about the mangosteen fruit or mangosteen juice before.

There are a number of good reasons why many people don't know about the extraordinary healing properties of the mangosteen fruit:

1    The mangosteen tree is temperamental and until recently, was frequently hard to grow commercially &

2    Mangosteen is an exquisite tasting fruit, known as The Queen Of The Fruits, frequently making it expensive for the indigenous populations.

Consequently, although mangosteen grows in an area from India right across to Eastern China, most people there are still unaware of the mangosteen's long traditional healing history, some of which Xango founder Joe Morton mentions in the introductory video.

To this day, dried mangosteen peel is still used by many traditional healers in South East Asia for:

  • skin problems such as acne & eczema
  • stomach problems such as diarrhea & dysentery
  • bringing down fevers from malaria
  • thrush
  • urinary tract infections &
  • depression

...and many other complaints.

3    While fresh mangosteen is available in many parts of the world, it has not been so in the USA until very recently (see New York Times, August 8 2007)

"...PEST FREE Ripe mangosteens, known for their flavor, are being shipped now from Puerto Rico...About 80 pounds are scheduled to arrive by FedEx in New York and Los Angeles...They will go to luxury hotels and markets...Mitchell Spitz, the owner of the Orchard, a high-end produce store in Brooklyn, said he paid $30 a pound wholesale and was selling the fruit for $45 a pound (about $10 each)..."

Another Reason Why Mangosteen Is So Little Known Outside South East Asia

Celebrity Xango juice drinkers spill the beans on just how good it tastes

Though S.E. Asian healers have used the mangosteen fruit's skin (the pericarp) for centuries, the taste is extremely bitter and very unpalatable, so it is mostly known for treating skin disorders, which are treated topically. In fact, until Xango produced its patented mixture of fruit juices, it was very rare that anyone could consume mangosteen peel regularly... simply because the taste was so awful!

Xango's triumph is that they've somehow managed to create a fruit juice recipe that is tarty and fresh and masks that distinctive, abhorrent mangosteen peel taste. Don't just take my word for it, though, here's:

Xango FAQ

Xango juice: A health revolution in a bottleIs Xango mangosteen juice organic?

The mangosteen pulp and juice is organic but the other fruits may not be, depending upon seasonal availability. You can find out more about the mangosteen crop's growth and harvesting at my mangosteen blog.

Is Xango juice pasteurized or heat processed?

Yes. Government regulations require either pasteurization for the safety of consumers or a warning label of possible microbial contamination in products that aren't pasteurized.

Extensive research reveals that pasteurization doesn't affect the xanthone content or general efficacy of Xango mangosteen juice.

Does Xango contain:

  • Preservatives? Yes, Sodium benzoate is used as an antimicrobial agent in very small amounts. It carries the GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) designation by the FDA and is added as part of the world-recognized Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in food and beverage processing
  • Potassium? The various fruits in the juice contain potassium as a natural component, at about 70mg per 1 oz.
  • Sugars? No, there are no added sugars, only naturally occurring fructose
  • MSG? No
  • Gluten? No
  • Vitamin K? No
  • Sulfur? No
  • Silicates? No

Xango juice has:

  • a shelf life of two years in an unopened bottle but it's wise to check the "best by" date on the bottom of each bottle
  • a pH level of 3.6

Does Xango Have Any Side-effects?

In my experience Xango juice has never had any serious side-effects for me or my customers when they followed this very basic guidance:

1   It's very important in everyday life to drink plenty of water and this is especially so when starting to take mangosteen juice.

You should be consuming, perhaps a liter of preferably bottled water a day (liquids such as coffee or Coke don't count!) for the first few weeks. In my experience, this minimizes 90% of all so-called side-effects, which can include:

  • fatigue
  • can't sleep / drowsiness
  • grumpiness
  • general aches and pains

I repeat, if you drink enough water, these side-effects should be very minor. At worst, they should last only a couple of days.

Again, in my experience, most people don't report any side-effects, though I did have some several times during my first six weeks on Xango juice. Every time I just upped the water intake and the discomfort was minimized, except on one occasion, when I was unusually glum for about 48 hours. Incidentally, I've not heard of this happening to anyone else.

2   If you have a weak stomach and don't favor any fruit juices generally or a medically treated stomach condition, try drinking Xango mangosteen juice in a highly diluted form, perhaps 1 oz., perhaps even half that, to a liter of water every day.

If you have no adverse reactions, make the Xango juice solution more concentrated, until you can drink it straight. Drinking it in a diluted form ensures that you have plenty of water but it also hinders Xango's chance to:

  • be a great taste sensation
  • act as a powerful mouthwash &
  • work directly on your internal organs

...so, to get to the point of drinking it pure is a good goal

3   Most important of all, I cannot stress it more, if you're on ANY medically prescribed medication, ALWAYS take Xango juice under the guidance of a sympathetic physician.

In those conditions, any change of diet should be monitored for your body's reactions and mangosteen juice, being a food (which is what the FDA classes it as), is a very powerful natural food and is no different.

I repeat, if you're under medication, please ONLY take Xango juice under the guidance of a sympathetic physician or pharmacist

Following those simple guidelines should cover almost every problem that might arise.
