Google's reporting for Adsense earnings is actually (perhaps intentionally) a little difficult to master and even then, pretty lacklustre, providing 200 "channels" to track your Adsense earnings. If that's too much of a hassle and you use Firefox, here's a cool little FREE tool that sits in your toolbar, which provides an almost REALTIME update of your Adsense earnings.

However, if you intend to go beyond dalliance and really use Adsense as a serious money earner, I strongly recommend that you take a peak at Jonathan Leger's Adsense Gold.

Leger's an interesting character, a former computer programmer who flopped badly in internet marketing for almost 10 years until, in 2004, he stumbled upon using his professional skills to develop a tracking script for Google Adsense and hasn't looked back since then.

Adsense Gold is a little piece of code, that you place on each page of your site (or sites, you can install it on as many as you like) and it really does provide you with some incredible and easily understood INFO on how much Adsense (or now, Yahoo) revenue you're generating for:

the various ad formats

which particular ads are being clicked on

where they're best placed

which color combinations are working and which aren't

which particular ad blocks your visitors are clicking on (and which they're ignoring)

the click through rates (CTRs) for your site's individual pages, with breakdowns into every hour, day, week, monthly etc. &

a whole lot more, which, when you analyze the results, can be utilized in all sorts of commercial ways

When you first install it, Leger's tracking script may seem a little daunting but it's soon mastered...and if you're serious Adsense webmaster, it's a must-buy.

I don't know how many pages I've found on my various sites that were under-performing in relation to others, and have used the tracking script to double, sometimes triple the income earned from that particular page. Occasionally, those improvements have even resulted in the well-performing pages being tweaked further.

It's my duty to warn you, though, Adsense Gold has:

1 a squeeze page, which is a bit of a drag &

2 when you get through that, there's a horrible over-the-top sales page, which may put you off. No, I'll go further, the sales page should put you off, it's really so, so, dreadful!

I'm going to just ask you to trust me on this one, because this is a really good product and you're probably going to be appalled by the sales page. Do your best to ignore it and in this case, just buy the product (you can always get your money back).

Incidentally, this version is now Adsense Gold 2.0 and a few bugs have been ironed out, so it's now pretty user-friendly. Jonathan's also created some videos to help with the installation, so that shouldn't be a problem, either.

I'm not all that impressed by the extras (they suit the sales page) but perhaps others could find some use for them. Overall, this is an exceptional product only brought down by crappy marketing. Highly Recommended.
